Well, I did it, having had a success with me Lego Design by Me model.
I made a digital model of one of my Star Wars Roleplaying Board ships.
And I think it looks great:-

Easy Character Pictures For Use on RP Boards.
Following on from my thoughts about using Lego Design by Me to create starship images - I thought about how I could make good character pictures easily. It struck me that most of the main races are covered in Star Wars Galaxies Emulator And they are all very customizable, and there's a huge wardrobe of clothes available.
This in mind I loaded up the game and had a look at what I could come up with for some of my characters - one of them needed some photo-shop because she has a unique head piece, but the other was really easy - create character, get the clothes right - then stand in front of the right kind of background.
The first one is here:-
She is Ossu Ikari, a Twi'Lek Jedi Padawan.
The second is the Sith Darius Malakai shown here: -
These were pretty specialist characters, but I managed to make an easy character image despite this. Standard characters - more run of the mill ones should be a sinch to make using Star Wars Galaxies Emulator.

An interesting thought about creating easy starship images for RP Wiki articles.
I really need an image for Darius Malakai's ship, the Mirage Obsidious. I'm not great shakes at art, but I can build things, I recently built a virtual minifigure scale spaceship and ordered the set using the Lego Design by Me service and blogged about it on my Lego Design by Me blog.
Well, you can take some great 3D screenshots and you can put space backgrounds in really easily and you can add special effects, like laser shots and explosions.
SO I thought I bet I can use that to make a Mirage Obsidious image? So that's what I'm going to do, I'm even going to add a tiny scale Imperial Star Destroyer to show the scale of the 40km starship, the Mirage Obsidious... I'll post the result here once I've done it.

Star Wars Roleplaying
One of my various hobbies is writing collaborative fan fiction in the form of Star Wars Roleplaying.
I've been a member of Exodus for nearly ten years now, one of the problems faced with RP'ing through writing is getting character images. A wikia article on a character never looks complete until it has a nice image doing it justice.
Previously I have always tried posting requests on the Star Wars Artists Guild, but these are rarely picked up. I have decided to try and address the problem personally. Looking at the web I've found an interesting piece of software called DAZ Studio for creating characters, I've downloaded it and am about to try to create my first character pictures... I will post the results here as well as the Exodus Star wars roleplaying wikia...
